Tomorrow, we begin our journey across the country. We are searching for the city that wants to try something radically different. That is willing to create a system that provides their residents with all the things they need in order to stay out of trouble: A hobby, a sense of community, a cause to dedicate themselves to, a group to be part of, a way to make friends, a way to make money, a way to finally fulfill their deepest desires. We are searching for the city who believes that instead of frightening it’s people into compliance, that the government can provide what they need for life, liberty and happiness.
We are leaving Salt Lake City and heading directly towards Minneapolis. We hope this is the place for change to sprout. We have seen respectable leadership from the elected officials who listen to the needs of those they govern. We have seen the drive to change; the recognition that the system cannot be “fixed.” We admire their willingness to do away with it and start something new. We hope that in the wake of this tragedy, this city will become a beacon for growth, radical reform and progressive progress.
Instead of having to protest against inequality, the good-ol’-boy games and the struggle against “The Man” wouldn’t it be great to have a system that rewards you for doing what you do best? For being you! For connecting and creating? I know, it seems too Utopian to be true. But there’s a reason we keep coming back to it: it is what’s in our souls. And our DNA. Using our available resources to create new tools & then forming communities who knew how to use them? Those are the ONLY reasons our squishy, hairless monkey forefathers survived for long enough to allow us to become the majestic creatures we are today.
We couldn’t do it in the 70s because we didn’t have the necessary automation to do the mundane jobs. But now we are FIGHTING AUTOMATION to keep our jobs. Two months ago, we saw how unnecessary most of our jobs became. So what happens if we keep on like this? When the only jobs that are left are...what? ALL JOBS WORTH HAVING ARE CREATIVE IN NATURE. If it’s not creative, within 5 years, a robot will be doing it 20 times better than you, for free, and massaging your bosses feet while doing it. Creativity and connection are the only professions that CANNOT be automated!
What we propose is that you surrender to the system and find a job doing something you feel like you were born to do. Is it writing? Teaching? Dancing? Painting? Gardening? Knitting? What’s your passion? How would you like to wake up knowing that your job would be to create something beautiful, to support those around you, and to be loved and appreciated for everything you did?
You can not only make a living doing that, you can make a life doing that!
There is money in it. There is pleasure in it. Wouldn’t that be a life worth waking up for? Worth working long hours for? Worth dedicating yourself to? A life where you get to learn and teach and progress and the more you progress and create, the more there is to learn and to teach. So we are always creating new opportunities for growth: learning, teaching, creating. It’s not the standard economy, but producing to the maximum capacity has left our planet on the brink of collapse. Don’t you think we should create a new economy that takes this delicate balance into consideration? An economy that makes ideas, creativity and connection the new currency?
While we are still unified, while we have drive and momentum, we can do this. Slightly Social Club is a system which allows us to be recognized, not by the color of our skin, but by the things we create. By the friendships we foster, our music or dance, art or words, knowledge or compassion.
Is this something you would like to see?
